2010 Dodge Journey not starting
Hello,
I just bought a 2010 Dodge Journey FWD 2.4L automatic with 85,500 miles from a dealership, and now it refuses to start. The lights don't go dim, and I do hear one click. The dealership has not been useful, but that is a whole different story.
- the starter and battery has been replaced by the dealer... (supposedly)
- I took out the fuse for the WIN module for a minute a couple times, to no effect
- tried jumping the vehicle and it didnt start
- it won't start in park or neutral
- it won't start after shifting through the gears or jiggling the shifter
Doing a VIN lookup, there are currently no active recalls that apply to the vehicle. The only thing I can think of is perhaps the wiring to the starter is loose?
I've been searching online and cannot find any guide that shows where the starter is.
Anyone have ideas? I heard that the transmission range sensor could be going out... but isn't that surefire diagnosed if it starts in neutral and not park?

I believe if the PCM/TCM sees a Range sensor code, it will not allow starting in neutral either. Sort of like Cruise being disabled if the speed sensor or brake switch was inoperative.

Hey everyone,
Thank you for the replies. I'm in Pennsylvania, and the dealership is in Virginia. When I got the vehicle safety inspected, it failed. More importantly, there were 'hidden' engine codes that the local repair shop pulled; I submitted all of these codes to the dealership.
I'm looking at these codes more, and they seem to involve the engine/transmission.
P0455 - gas cap leak
P0700 - TCM
P0562 - system voltage low
P0691 - Cooling fan circuit low
P0693 - cooling fan circuit low
B210D - Battery voltage low
I'm now incredibly pissed that when I brought this car back down to the dealership for warranty repairs, this all got 'overlooked'. This vehicle may not be starting because the TCM is shot, I have one mile left in the warranty on it's last day, and that I submitted this all to the dealership and they ignored me.
Grr.

Hey DodgeCares,
Thank you for the reply. I have kept everything compiled together on my computer, including a timeline of events, copies of correspondence, as well as scans of all supporting documentation.
I already sent a copy of this to Dodge's Customer Assistance Center, but if you would like to PM me your fax number, I will fax you the most up-to-date copy as well.
Thank you,
Jeff

With that being said, the dealership has called me twice tonight! I'm trying to keep an open and forgiving mind, but I cannot help but feel that the only reason why they're contacting me now is because I contacted corporate and refuse to lay down on this matter (them selling a 'certified used' vehicle with seized brakes is the other major problem I have experienced).
So TNtech, thank you for informing me that more codes might be thrown and DodgeCares, thank you for contacting me as well.

Thank you for the heads up. This is good to know; I faxed these codes to the repair shop affiliated with the dealership. I had previously sent the codes to the dealership, but they failed to send them to the repair shop. This was all news to the service manager, who looked at the codes, felt mortified, called me, and apologized profusely.

NP (: BTW, our scan tools show EVERY code in the entire vehicle on one screen when it's connected. It's not like some others, where you have to interrogate modules one by one.
