RE: DIY Power Steering Service
shouldnt be a problem... if it's that cold you could always cover it up. or bypass it... there was a thread on another forum for the Chevy's where they added a fan to an existing cooler and claimed a good bump in mileage. their setup (as you probably already know) is a return line that goes thru the intake IIRC... absorbing alot of heat. the in tank temps rise over time with the stock cooler not doing a good enough job to keep it cool. so they added a fan to it and it made a difference for them... some were claiming 2+ mpg. not sure if I believe it or not... when I did it to my ram (gasser) I saw a solid 6% increase in hiway fuel economy.
Shot8283 bought the cooler off me and mounted it up front on his 2nd gen ram... he had an e-fan installed and sent me a pm with the title Holy Sh*t... made a huge difference for him with the fan installed... (mine was the stock fan setup)

RE: DIY Power Steering Service
Back on subject. I just had a talk with my local Dodge/Toyota dealer as when I had the wife’s car serviced last week the computer printed on her paperwork that at 30K it had to have power steering, Trans and Coolant flush! I went in today and asked the SM if it was a new update from what the Chrysler service book showed and he said that the computer is still set up with old data from when you had to change that stuff at 30,000 miles. I had looked up what the service interval was before I went to talk to him about my wife’s 06 Sebering and even at 60K the Trans does not need servicing unless it is used for as a Taxi or for commercial deliveries. Also it has nothing listed for the power steering fluid to be done at all but it does say to change the coolant at 5 years or 100K not 30K like the put on here paperwork.
As I see it when the dealers computer prints that kind of stuff on a customers paperwork a lot of people will have the work done at the months or miles printed on the paper not knowing that the info is not up to date. So at the next service they have the work printed on the prior paper work performed even thou it may not be needed or required at that time. That is a waste of there hard earned money for needless service.

Hey thank you for the power steering flush input I did mine today the oil looked ok. Although one of the hose was barely over the metal line, it could have blown off at any time. While I was under the truck I noticed oil on the bottom half of the Injection pump I am going to have to get that looked at.

no problem, glad to help. so your fluid looked as good as the replacement fluid? ATF4... mine looked like crap. I had a PS grinding noise that went away after the flush so my results were pretty good. considering the amount of time it took, it was a no brainer to do.
