Default Question on changing fuel filter

Hey guys, I read the DIY about changing the fuel filter and have one question. After changing the filter it states to turn the switch to run, wait for the pump to stop. Then bump the starter and wait for the pump again. My question is: bump the starter from the run position the switch is in already OR turn the switch off, then back on (cycling it) to bump the starter, or does it matter? Rather not botch it up and have to start bleeding the lines my first time through. Thanks in advance.

OK I lied, second question. Use the 7 micron filter??

Bump it from the run position its already in. Make sure you listen for the lift pump, it can be hard to hear with alot of background noise.

While we're on the subject of changing fuel filters, I changed mine Tuesday and ever since then, cold starts produce a lot of white smoke and idles rough. Once it warms up it seems to be OK. Have I done something wrong? I also changed the air filter, oil, and oil filter. Truck is a 06 with 11,500 miles.

find a steep hill and run your truck hard a few times, get your EGT's and boost numbers up. . .sounds like you may have had a piece of trash get into your system somewhere.

if that doesnt do it your FCA is probably sticking closed when cold.

Speaking of trash in the system, I changed my filter today and noticed some"trash" or something inthe filter housing, couldn't really tell what it was. What's the best way to get that crap out without making a mess??The housing was about 1/2 full of fuel.

I haven't done mine yet, but doesn't the housing drain completely when you open the valve and leave it open?
