Default Gear Vendor Over/Under Drive Problem

My Gear Vendor O.D. unit failed. I was really worried about the replacement cost, BUT Gear Vendor exchanged it for a Remanufactured Unit, full war. for $1,095. It is an exact replacement for my unit as they keep records on EVERYTHING they make, and set the new reman. unit up just like the original one sold for my truck.

In checking on what could have caused the failure, the only thing they could think of is coasting down grade with the Gear Vendor enguaged. The original owner used the truck a lot in the mts. and probably ran a lot in first, or second gear with the gear vendor enguaged. Mine is now set up to where it will only go into Gear Vendor OD if the shift lever is in Drive. With or without the transmission in OD. I never use the Gear Vendor when coming down hill, so I should not have any more problems. The Gear Vendor is rated for 33,000 lbs. towing, so towing is not a problem.

With the Gear Vendor enguaged while in Overdrive @ 70 MPH I get 20-21 MPG with an all up truck weight of 8,400 Lbs.Flat ground 300 mile trip.
Just running in Overdrive @ 70 MPH, I get about 18-19 MPG on the same trip as above, different day.

Drew,

Aparently the shaft wore into the case on the decel. side and it would not mexh in reverse, it would operate in forward gears while under load, but would "freewheel" when you backed off.
