Default possibly buying a cummins in the coming months

well, guys im not new to the forum, im pretty active in the 2nd gen side, but im considering buying a cummins either 2500 or 3500 in the coming months, id like to have a manual, but ill settle on an auto, deffinately need 4x4. im looking somewhere from 2004-2008 either the 5.9 or 6.7.

Im actually here to find out information on what to look for and problem areas. (i.e ive already read up on the 53 block issue)

any info/advice would be great.

thanks for the help in advance.

go with a 04.5 or newer, 07.5 started the 6.7 which has all the emmissions crap on them, and much lower mpg's than the 5.9, but with a chip you can remove the dpf and the egr and get the milage up in the 20's and they are a beast, but the 5.9 is alot simpler, and has more aftermarket upgrades avaiable for a better price

You're in FL, emissions shouldnt be a concern. Get the 6.7 - built in exhaust brake and the 68 RFE are two big reasons why.

Driving around Sarasota I can get about 18-24 mpg if I keep my foot out of it. The exhaust brake will make my service brakes last a LOT longer, even with the auto.

2007.5, when they switched to the 6.7, Holset HE351 turbo, 68RFE, and the EGR/DPF stuff. It's a package deal.

So far so good on the failure front - only problem mine's got right now is a burned out bulb in the HVAC controls.

Any legitimate claims that it causes problems?
