New to the forum and new to Dodge diesel truck in general. I have been looking in my owner's manual for the max towing limits and can't find any numbers.
Also looked at Dodge.com and did not find anything there either!
I just bought a 07 3500 mega cab single axle with the 6.7L
I would like to know what's the max GVW of a fifth wheel trailer I could safely pull with this truck.
Sorry if this is a repeat question but I can't seem to find a straight answer!

I have been looking at many sites and other forum postings and all I get is bits and pieces of information but nothing specific to the 2007 3500 srw mega cab???
Even Dodge website won't list these numbers.
I didn't think this information was so freakin hard to find.
Nobody on here knows either???
There have been charts posted on other forums to towing capacities but from what I've been able to find Dodge figures a little over 15k for an auto and 4:10 rear axle. If you get on Dodge's website you should be able to get the exact numbers but you may have to search for awhile. I would also say that these forums don't always get responces in an hour or two so patience is required and not all of my questions have been answered. Also you need to know the cab configuration ie. mega, crew or standard, long or short box, trans type and axle ratio as all affect towing capacity. Gerry

As for my truck it is 07 SRW short box mega cab 6.7, 6 spd AT and I think I saw 3.73 on the door tag.
I looked at the owners manual and I could not find anything in there.
I also read that towing max is mostly governed by the GCVW, I saw 20,000 and 23,000 so I am not sure what my truck really is?
My guess is GCVW 23,000 minus the GVWR which is curb weight plus fuel, pass and truck cargo which would leave about 14,000 for the trailer, is that just about right or is there more to it that that? Is the trailer pin weight(fifth wheel) added to the truck GVW before you subtract from the GCVW?
The first thing I suggest is that you weigh your truck equipt the way you would tow with it ie. full of fuel, with wife and kids, if you have any, and the gear you plan on taking in the truck. Then weigh front axle, rear axle and then you will know how much you can pull subtracted from the gross combined for your truck. When towing 5vers now comes the max pin weight. Your driver's door jam will show the max weight for the rear axle. By subtracting the loaded weight you have on the rear axle from your door jam's max you will have the max pin weight you may safely haul. Keep in mind when shopping for a 5ver or any tow behind never never never believe what the salesman tells you that you can haul, he is only interested in making the sale and never never use the dry or empty weight because nobody hauls anywhere near that but do use the max weight listed inside one of the cabinets as your guide. After a season or two of camping you'll be amazed at how much closer you are to the max than empty weight. I'm guessing your truck's rear weighs about 3100-3300 loaded and the max rear axle weight is probably between 8000 and 9000. My 2004 3500 dually, QCLB 4x4 with full tank and me weighs about 3300 rear but has a max a bit over 9300. yours I would expect to be a bit less with srw. I am a strong advocate of knowing what my rig weighs and if it is balanced correctly, in short tow safe. Hope that helps, Gerry

You are right about second guessing(not believing the sales guy) One told me my truck will be at ease pulling a 40 footer!!! I'm sure the pulling is fine, it's the stopping I'm concerned with...
I have not settled on a specific trailer yet but having max weight numbers will narrow the search down somewhat.
What is the average travel trailer GVW people pulls with a single 1 ton within safe margin without problems?
I once saw a guy in a half ton ford pulling a 32' bumper pull in a 30-40 mph cross wind and it was absolutely scary, that guy had no idea what he got himself into!
