Default engine fault codes

2010 Ram 2500 6.7 L diesel with engine light on and fault code P049D. I know it has to do with the EGR and exhaust filter. Truck is running just fine. What recommendations do you have for me? Should I see dealer or can I simply reset this, and if so, how? Thanks to all.

Sprt,

The code you have was mentioned in a TSB involving the ECM. I have posted it below to help you decide if you want to take it in to the dealer to have them look at it. Perhaps this flash will correct your issue.

NUMBER: 18-004-11 REV. B
GROUP: Vehicle Performance
DATE: December 21, 2011

SUBJECT:
Flash: Diagnostic and System Improvements
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the Engine Control Module
(ECM) with new software.
MODELS:
2010 (DJ) Ram Pick Up (2500)
2010 (D2) Ram Pick Up (3500)
NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 6.7L Cummins engine (Sales
code ETJ).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Pick up trucks equipped with a 6.7L Cummins diesel have a number of software
improvements/enhancements available. This SB will include improved robustness
for DTC's:
· ** P049D - EGR CONTROL POSITION EXCEEDED LEARNING LIMIT **
· ** P2002 - DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER EFFICIENCY BELOW THRESHOLD **
· ** P2195 - O2 SENSOR 1/1 OUT OF RANGE HIGH **
· ** P2196 - O2 SENSOR 1/1 OUT OF RANGE LOW **
· ** P2270 - O2 SENSOR 1/2 OUT OF RANGE HIGH **
· ** P2271 - O2 SENSOR 1/2 OUT OF RANGE LOW **
· ** P241A - O2 SENSOR 1/1 AND 1/2 OXYGEN CONCENTRATION MISMATCH **
· ** P2609 - INTAKE AIR HEATER SYSTEM PERFORMANCE **
NUMBER: 18-004-11 REV. B

DATE: December 21, 2011
· P046C - EGR POSITION SENSOR PERFORMANCE
· P051B - CRANKCASE PRESSURE SENSOR CIRCUIT RANGE/PERFORMANCE
· P0101 - MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR "A" CIRCUIT PERFORMANCE
· P245B - EGR COOLER BYPASS STATUS LINE INTERMITTENT
· P2262 - TURBOCHARGER BOOST PRESSURE NOT DETECTED - MECHANICAL
NOTE: Vehicles flashed to address the above codes should be driven and repair
validated. If code(s) return, follow diagnostic procedures available in
DealerCONNECT/TechCONNECT.
Improvements other than DTC robustness or enhancements:
· ** Ability to read EGR valve gap on wiTECH (version 12.02) **
· ** MIL on with no DTC **
· ** Erroneous, brief brake lamp flash at key on **
· WiTECH Turbo hysteresis test improvements
· Scan tool reporting fixes
· Stationary regeneration improvements
· Other driveability enhancements
Secure Bootloader software
If the Engine Control Module (ECM) does not have a calibration installed, or has an
unapproved calibration installed then the ECM will be in a Read Only Memory (ROM) boot
state. The ECM will have power but the lack of approved software will not allow the vehicle
to be started and driven. No further diagnostics of the ECM will be available at this time.
This code will be cleared and issue resolved when the ECM is updated with the correct
approved calibration. Refer to the DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT > Service
Information for more detail.
DTC U1601 set outside of the dealership with a no crank (towed in), no start condition
caused by unauthorized (up-rate) software will NOT be covered under the terms of the
warranty.
DTC U1601 code may also be set when a legitimate flash is interrupted for any reason.

The engine light came on first week of Jan. in my 2010 cummins w/ 52,000 miles on it. I took it to the dealer and they said it was an emissions warranty issue. They replaced 2 oxygen sensors, cleaned the exhaust filter and flashed the computer. Last week the light came back on so I took it back and they say it was caused by previous problem and now had to clean the turbo and piping. If I had known to take it in for computer issue all this could have been avoided.

Default P2271 O2 Sensor Bank 1 Sensor 2 stuck too RICH

2010 6.7L 2500 2WD 32941 miles AT
The check engine light come on. So I went down to the local Autozone and used the scanner P2271 code My truck is more than three years old but federal emissions warranty is good for 5 Years or 50,000 miles. So went down to the local Dodge dealer and asked if my O2 Sensor was covered under warranty and dealer said no it's not. I reminded him about the federal emission law. So he looked it up and HEY YOUR RIGHT ITS COVERED. Okay this what fixed my truck
08902493 O2 Sensor connector replaced
68022815AA Wiring 6 way
14011074 Completing 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel (what ever that is)
32983 O2 SENSOR FAULT P2271-1/2 O2 SENSOR , TSB 2.40
**18-19-04-F9 Module Engine Control (ECM) - Reprogram (or re-flash)
Quicklearn Transmission 0.7 hours AS PER TSB 18-005-13 for O2 Sensor related to P2271. So in other words if you get this P2271 Dodge knows all about it but DOESNT DO A RECALL ON IT. Or volunteer that it's under warranty unless you press them
All repairs done under warranty for no charge. The truck runs fantastic and shifts much better nice and firm 3:73 Gears 38 foot 5ER 12,000 lbs and gets 14.5 MPG on flat level ground w/cruise set at 65 MPH 1600 RPM's getting 18-20 around town empty. No trailer. Not sure I think they updated the ECM to 800 Ft of torque speciation. As far as I know other than the flash a different balancer is used.

Default P2271 O2 Sensor Engine Code

Okay just an update. I went 653 miles after the repair and got an Active MIL
again P2271. Went back to the same dealer and this time they got me in and out quickly replaced the O2 Sensor this time. Will see how long it goes this time. The dealer only has two (2) more attempts to repair it. After the fourth time it's going back to the dealer under the lemon Law. Of course they tried to sell me a new truck because they (Dodge that is) have fixed all the issues on the new truck's That's B.S. if they can fix the new ones they should be able to fix the older ones

Smile P2271 Check Engine light

I am leaving to go on another trip here soon and plan a 1000 miles or so. This will be a good test to see if my truck is fixed. I'll let you guys know what happened. I would consider a new dually if I could one for the right price. I only purchased the dodge because it didn't use DEF but they all do now so I might switch back to Duramax it would be my second one. Sorry guys buy the chevy is a nicer truck inside and out.
