Actually for the 5600, Amsoil has a "MTL" specifically for the manuals now...no need for 5w30 oil...if his owner's manual is like mine, there is no scheduled drain for the 5600. I'm going to run Royal Purple SynchroMax in mine...Pennzoil is probably the easiest to come by in the local parts house...Pennzoil Synchromesh.
And the auto uses chrysler specific ATF+4 now...which I believe Amsoil ATF also meets the specs for ATF+4 as well.
Has anyone had any trouble with using this? "Amsoil Synthetic Manual Transmission and
Transaxle Gear Lube 75W-90 API GL-4" in their NV4500? I was looking at my trans, and it has a warning sticker on the side saying that if you use anything other than the 3 listed choices (Castrol, GM or Mopar) that "sever damage can result" [sm=confused06.gif] Is this just BS or has anyone used the Amsoil Trans Lube in theirs? Thanks for the input.
Mike. . .the answer is yes. I've seen pictures of a 5600 where the wrong oil was used and the bearing races were shot, bearings themselves were pitted, and the syncros were shattered.
then on top of that, New Venture Gear is no longer in buisness, New Process bought them and the patents they held when DC moved from NV to the G-56. long story short, parts for the NV35, 45, 56, and other trannies are in shorter and shorter supply. the only way to keep the tranny happy is to use the correct oil that is specified.
now in the next 2K or so miles I'm gunna need to change all the fluids. I have a source for all the AMSoil oils I need for a good price so I'll be able to tell how much different the AMSoil is over what I'm useing now.
I already have AMSoil in the engine of my taco and I can tell a little difference in the way the engine runs. I like it and will probably continue useing it.

Thanks Drew, glad I asked! I am planning some mods, and I was considering doing a bumper to bumper switch to synthetics, so I did a search on the Amsoil website and according to their build list for my 98.5, it says to use the Amsoil Synthetic Manual Transmission and Transaxle Gear Lube 75W-90 API GL-4 in the NV4500. So I am just trying to be sure I am understanding you rightly. You are recommending going with what the NV sticker says only then? I noticed in your post earlier you had listed Amsoil use in the NV5600, but not the NV4500? Is that because of a difference between these 2 trannys? I have seen differing reports (mostly good) on Amsoil use around the web, and I am leaning towards the Amsoil still, but I surely value your opinion. Was the trans damage you mention from the Amsoil recommended Amsoil or just the wrong oil altogether?
My tranny took a dump on me when I bought it and the previous owner changed it with gear lube. Bearings siezed, cracked shafts, all that good stuff. After a shop rebuilt it and put GEAR LUBE BACK IN IT, it was shot again 1000 miles later. Granted it was Amsoil gear they put in it, but definetly the wrong type of oil. However, I run Amsoil in the engine and the correct Amsoil in the tranny with no problems anymore. If needed, give a call to the Amsoil reps and they will set you on the right track.
I used penzoil senchromesh Not impressed shifting is tougher. Going to try either royal purple out or ams oil. probably ams oil. Easier to get ahold of. But Basically. Any high performance oil producer. Ams oil, Redline. Royal purple. All have stuff out there to use in your tranny. JUST BE SURE THAT IT" THE RIGHT STUFF! For instance don't use gear lube for manual tranny so on and so forth. Plus the dealers should be able to tell you what to use if you know what you have. But as for your sticker. They're correct as in don't use the wrong lube. But incorrect telling you who.... They would prefer you go to them and pay them.
Also Drew. Hey have you heard of anyone switching like a 03 5.9L with a NV5600 to a G56? Isn't it a similar set up? Gearing such and such? Or are they way different? Would it be worth considering if you tranny go **** up? Oh btw went to a site the other day stated taht the NV5600 brand new was only like 4k I expected more. It was a OEM Parts site so I dunno. [&:]
