Default crankshaft sensor tooth

bought a rokk tech crank sensor today and went to intstall it and noticed that the gear that the sensor reads off of, was missing a tooth, my question is.. this that the way the gear is supposed to be or is there something wrong? barred the engine over and all the other ones are there evenly spaced until the gap where it looks like there should have been one. looks like the gear was made with the one spot missing a tooth???

Not sure on the little cummins but I am a Diesel Mechanic by trade and there are engines out there that have gears made like that for timing purposes. I am sure that that is what it is especially since it is on the crank.

my thinking would be the same as yours, it is a timeing marker, and I think your right, I'll look at mine and see if it is the same as yours later today.

BTW, that is called the tone wheel.
