1989 Slant 6 problem
My son has headed cross the country from PEI in his 89 van. Currently in Ontario and run into engine / transmission problems. He was having some rough running issues this summer snd and vibration… I thought maybe an off balance fly wheel. No one here identified the problem.
He has been on the road for a bit more than a week and getting a bad noise, he thinks from transmission. It does leak some apparently.
He is at a shop where they say he may have a flywheel problem and a torque converter issue. They are currently trying to diagnose and are removing transmission.
Any advice on what repair ma be done… cost on used tranny and cost of remove and replace? Attaching short video clip to hear the noise it’s making.

Ouch. I remember when I could get a trans rebuild for around 1500 or so, including the new torque converter...... My how things have changed.

You are going to have to. The fluid now has thousands of miniscule shavings in it and those are everywhere in the trans now.
