Default 1995 dodge van

The transmission cooler line disconnected off the transmision and leaked out all the oil. I refilled it but know it wont shift into reverse and will only shift between first and second gear and makes a grinding noise. Does anybody know what's causing this or know how to fix it.Thanks

When you refilled it, did you check the dip-stick when the engine was hot and in neutral?

How long did you drive the van with all the tranny fluid drained out?

I drove it for about 15 to 20 miles and when I refilled it the level was right with the tranny being warm.

Perhaps a band adjustment is in order, but running an Automatic tranny dry, I always considered a death sentence.
