Optima batteries are AGM construction. Absorbed glass matt. They will not out gas unless severely overcharged.

While they will recover from deep discharges, they are still damaged by them to some degree or another. Do not fall for the marketing hype and think they are the end all be all of batteries. Optima's quality has been highly suspect for the last several years with a surprising amount of haters in the off road world.

Another thing is that all AGM batterys have more cranking amps than a similarly sized flooded battery. While this makes them more "powerful", their 6 pack design actually reduces overall capacity. That battery in the pic probably has 55 amp hours, a regular flooded battery of similar footprint will have 85 amp hours.

Basically you could run the radio for a few more hours on the flooded battery than the Optima.

The most highly regarded AGM batteries these days are Odyssey, or their generic version Sears Die Hard Platinum. They will have nearly the same capacity as any similarly sized flooded battery, and will cost the same as an Optima and have 25% more capacity.

And with more capacity, the less they are discharged as a percentage, and thus last longer
