Default oil pressure light.

I am new to Dodge vehicles, but my 95 b2500 has a problem. I was driving today and after about an hour the oil pressure dropped and the oil light came on, I pulled over and shut it off for about 30 seconds and restarted, and the pressure was fine. It continued to do this all the way to my house. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

I am assuming from this statement that when you say "the pressure was fine," that you mean the light went off. Let me ask the obvious that you did not state -- did you check the oil level? The force of even light cornering while the oil is low, will starve the oil pump momentarily and cause the pressure to drop and the light to illuminate. Once the van is stable again, the pressure returns and the light goes out.

If the oil level is correct and recently changed with a new filter, about the cheapest part to throw at the problem is the oil pressure sending unit. Less than $20 over at rockauto.com

Maybe you can help yourself by doing a search on this forum for "oil pressure" -- then give us some more information so we can help you.

Did the engine start making ticking noises like it was low on oil, or did it sound normal?

The motor made no noises, just the pressure dropped to zero and the light came on.

Then change the oil pressure sender and the problem will go away.

Just to the right of the distributor. You have to remove the dog house to get to it.

F.Y.I a mechanical oil pressure gauges are cheap and 90 mins to install but buy the copper line. Neglected too mention mechanical gauges report real oil pressure. Purchased a brass T fitting so I run the factory as well.

Suggest you change the oil pressure sensor or install a real (mechanical) oil pressure gauge. As mentioned in a previous post you can run both.

A well worn engine may not make any unusual noises even pressure drops to almost nothing. If your oil pressure drops below 5 - 6 psi after the motor is warmed up it usually means the main bearings are gone.
