Default Firewall vent?

Hi all,
I'm laying down some Peel And Seal to cut down on the road noise(The only thing I don't like about my van)and have encountered a big vent right above the passenger's toes. It looks like it goes into the heating/cooling ductwork, but since it's covered by the carpet, I'm wondering how effective it could be.
Anyhow, should I cover it with the insulation or not?

It's probably a flap to let pressure out of the cabin when you slam the door. I would not cover it up.

That's the cabin recycle air intake for when the A/C is on Max which also closes off the outside air intake vent.

Thanx for the replys, very informative.
I live in Az./Mex., so I will leave it uncovered.
In fact, I have never found that the max. ac worked any better than reg. AC, so I will pull the carpet away and try it.
thanx again.

The only difference is when on Max it draws air from inside, normal A/C draws from the outside. By using Max, you're cooling cooler air which cools the air even further. It's a snowball effect...if you'll pardon the pun.
