Default 1996 B3500 rear wheel bearing replacement adjustment question?

My 1996 B3500 Ram Van has been making a clunking noise from the rear end when on rough surfaces. I lifted both rear wheels off the ground and can shuck both wheels in and out approximately 1/16 to an 1/8". This appears to be the sound I hear when driving. I am trying to understand how I adjust the preload on the rear wheel bearings. I have the Chilton repair manual for 89-96 full size trucks although it is not obviously clear how to adjust this free play. Could some one give me a couple of pointers?

So I just talked with my friend. He said these wheel bearings are not adjustable, there is a c-clip inside the diff housing, they all shuck back and forth some...just deal with it. he said if the wheel bearings are bad the seals will leak oil. No oil leaking here.

Any thoughts?

Is there not oil on your rear brake shoe and the leaf spring? Please use jack stands.
