Default Problem with transmission fluid reading

Hey guys I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7L quad cab. I have been trying to figure out how get a proper reading on my transmission dip stick. There are two areas on the dip stick to read the fluid level, a cold read on the bottom of the stick, and a hot read further up. My problem is that when the engine is cold, my fluid is reading well past the hot mark (when it should be lower in the cold area right?) and when engine is hot it is about 3/4" past the cold check mark. Seems to me that the readings should be in reverse. Has anyone else had that problem?
