Default Gas mileage

My family currently own a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck. It has the 318 motor in it and well isn't the easiest on gas. We use the truck for utlitly purposes and well the 318 pumps out way more power then we ever need. So we have been looking for a way to get better gas mileage out of this thing. If it hurts performance then that is fine just want to get a few more miles on a gallon of gas with this thing. So any help or suggestions on what we should do would be greatly appericated. thanks

Default RE: Gas mileage

After Market Goodies:

Cold Air Intake (1.5-2 mpg increase with some applications)
K&N, Airaid, Volant

Exhaust System (1.5-2 mpg or so they say I haven't noticed with my truck) Gibson, Flowmaster, Borla etc.

Headers
Gibson, Flowmaster, Borla etc.

Programmer / Chip
SuperChips, Granatelli, Hyperchips (no jet chips they suck imo)

New Throttle Bottle (*not the Throttle Body Spacer)
The Fastman is running a killer offer.

Bed Cover / Tailgate Open
Saves a little (1.5-2 reported)

Synthetic Oil (AMSOIL YEA) I don't know if its true but I swear I'm getting better mileage now that I switched.

New Spark Plugs Wires.
Hi Grade Silicone Hoses
Octane Boost

Many Goodies to help, nothing proven... everyone has there own ways of getting the best mileage.

not sure about the E-fan, haven't heard about it...I am looking to try the throttle body vs. spacer, but haven't heard much feedback yet and am still waiting to learn the mechanism of action that makes the engine more efficient.....you may laugh, but my mechanic and I took the stock air box out and drilled 1.5 inch holes on the sides that faced away from the engine and then replaced the stock filter...oh, and we did the spark plugs too, it made a modest improvement in gas mileage of about 1-2mpg on the highway....I drive 25 minutes on the interstate to work everyday which is basically my dodge testing ground for these kind of things, good luck

Default RE: Gas mileage

I have gotten about a 7 mile gain with the addition of exhaust and bolt-ons. These include Flowmaster cat back, BBK thottle body, Airaid intake with monotube, Poweraid TB spacer, and a JET stage one chip. These are on a 4.7 but the results help on anything but the results may vary. Been nice to gain the mileage and the performance. I hope the the Fastman TB and Gibson Headers will help in that department. Well heres to gaining as much mileage as we can in these days of 2 bucks a gallon.
