Question Automatic Transmission problem

93 Stealth ES will not shift properly. Like neutral in reverse position with no reverse gear and only forward gears in other positions. Change the TCU and still have the problem. Anyone with suggestion on other part that may be causing this to happen. Can give further details if needed but this seems to sum up the problem. Thanks in advance for any help on this.

little confused, did reverse doesn't work at all and acts like neutral? And does neutral acts like drive?

when put into R or P it acts as if it has a tranny brake on and won't rev up and when put in N it will drive. replaced the TCU and it did not solve the problem, looking for any other suggestions.

It has to be a mechanical piece that has malfunctioned internally, or a stuck solenoid.
In nuetral, there is nothing happening in the valve body, park is held in place with a pin on the last drum inside at the rear or "end". Reverse - the rear clutch & rear band are applied. Although the Reverse & first gears use the same clutch drum, I am thinking there is something wrong with the rear portion of the internal parts of the transmission when this is selected - I.E. a part of the planetary gear set possibly.

check the linkage and make sure it's properly adjusted. It also could be something like a sticking valve
