02 with 05 , can i make it work ?

around a year ago i bought a engine for a stratus that was said to work with a 02 from a dealer who got it out of a 05 . i didn't get the engine put in untill that warrenty was already up . but i did put it in a perfect body . fit rite in with no modifications . got to fire it up , nothing . take it to a dealer , they say wrong engine for body year . is this true ? can my 05 2.7 dohc engine with 50 miles not work in my 02 ? the engine taken out of it and this one are identical in size shape and apperance
