Default Suspension "Thump"

Just picked up a 2002 Stratus RT with 32000 miles.

I have noticedthat when going over bumps at low speeds there is a "thumping" sound coming from thesuspension. It isn't a squeak, its a thump that can be felt in the floorboards. It seems to be mostly in the front, but could also be coming from the rear. It seems to be as the suspension rebounds from the bump and not during during compression.

The car is stone stock. Any ideas were to start looking & checking or is this normal for a RT?

Thanks,

Mark

I'd start with the the motor mounts, check and see if their ok, than go to the struts and see if their blown.

I'll give those a check, but it doesn't feel like the struts have failed orthe metal to metal sound of failed engine mounts.

Its almost as if the struts aren't correctly seated in their mounts and under full travel at low speeds they "thump."I think I'll check the mounting torque of the struts.

I understand that there were TSBs forthe suspension in 01 & 02. Does anybody have the complete TSBs?

Thanks,

Upon test driving my '01 R/T at the dealer, I felt something like you described. I thought that it might be a strut. I haggled with them and took it to my mechanic... It was a top transmission mount. Maybe our '01's - '02's are prone to this?

Mitch,

Hmmmmm...., Interesting. I'll have to check that trans mount. Didn't think about that one.

Thanks,
