Default newly installed hi/lo hid's also came with a big problem

they work fine, but in order for themto work at all I have to have a bulb in one of the sockets while theswitch is plugged in to the other socket. now the realproblem is that regardless if i have my high beams on or my low beams on the bulbs stay engaged in high beam and the only way to make the low beam stay engaged is to hold the switch in which is way too much of a hassle to do while trying to drive. I've searched forums and googled many times and can't really find anyone with this problem or an answer.
