Default Fuel injector connector removal PITA

What's the trick to removing the fuel injector connectors. There is a wire "U" that secures the connector to the injector. I took one connector off by sliding the U back, and now I can't get the little POS seated back on the connector. A plastic step prevents simply pulling the connector off the injector.

Q1 - How else can the connector be removed?
Q2 - How can I get the U back on the connector?

Thanks in advance.
Jim

Default RE: Fuel injector connector removal PITA

Well, I figured it out. You have no choice but to pull the U-clip out to disengage the shoulder.

When replacing the connector, don't try to push the wire U-clip in all the way before re-connecting it. Push the wire U-clip on far enough to stay on, but not into the gap. Put the connector on the injector, then push the U-clip the rest of the way on. There is just enough clearance to do this. Just don't knock the U-clip off.

I noticed on the other bank of injectors, there are no U-clips. Hmmm. I wonder what the PO or mechanic did?
