Default Is my old catalytic worth anything?

Just replaced my catalytic converter on my 97 Strat with 155k miles. I am the 2nd owner and I looked thorugh the service records and apparently it was changed once when the original owner had it. I replaced it because it was giving me engine code P0421 (catalyst efficiency). I have heard recent stories about theft of catalytic converters on cars due to the precious metals contained within them and then the subsequent sale to a metal scrap dealer. If your cat doesn't work efficiently anymore, are these precious metals still of any value? Anyone want to buy it?
