Default 95 stratus rpm guage is not working

The rpm guage doesn't work unless I'm going over 80mph for any length of time, then it will kick on and work until I shut the car off. That is really the only time it ever comes on and it won't do it everytime? Are there just electrical connections back there that could have a bad connection?

Also, if I replace the entire cluster, would a 96 work with no issues and is the mileage stored only in the ecu or both the ecu and cluster? Thanks

I am having a similar problem with my 97 Stratus except that the odometer will also go out alongside the tach. I have replaced the dash with a used 96 Breeze dash and I still have the problem. It seems to be a weather related thing as well.

To answer at least one of your questions, the odometer reading is actually stored in the computer so you should not loose the actual mileage. As for fixing the problem, I ordered the Dodge repair manual and the wiring schematic seems to point to only 2 possible conclusions; the connection to the ignition switch or the computer itself is having a fault. My next step, for myself, is to replace the computer and/or trace the wiring to see if there is an exposed cable causing this issue.

I know this is lengthy but I hope that this has helped as well as helping myself fix the same problem.
