but I would really like some pictures or a walk through in case things get complicated. i.e. is there a clip holding the shaft in to the transaxle which could become a problem, and getting the old one off is one thing, putting a new one on is another! If needed I will try and find a haynes manual, or shop manual online, but figured someone might have one in .pdf, or may be able to provide some advice. Thanks for any advice.

Its simple. I swapped a motor in an Eclipse last weekend, (same car basically) and had to have both CV axles out. Get a nice screw driver, use quick force, and it should pop with ease.
I found a small rawhide hammer to help a lot too. I didn't need any special tools to remove the tie rod ball joint, and I was able to swing the cv axle out without undoing the lower ball joint.
Air tools make this job much easier.

As far as a repair/service manual, am I better off getting one from an eclipse? If so, what years? I found one for Chrysler Sebring, Dodge Stratus & Avenger automotive repair manual, incl. stratus coupe 2001-2005, I have the feeling that the r/t would be more in the eclipse manual, as everything under the hood is stamped mitsubishi? Any advice on what manual to look at would be great. Or if there is something other then haynes that I could search for? Thanks

The coupe (all flavors) are mitsubishi. the 2001 + sedan (all flavors) are dodge.
only the 95-00 have some mitsu and dodge (there was no coupe).
If the manual shows coupe 01-05, than that covers the R/T also.

Reason: didn't finish...
I have both. The Stratus book is alright, but the Eclipse book is much better.

Can someone who has the actual manual post exactly which one to get for a 2002 stratus r/t coupe? I am thinking it's the "Haynes Mitsubishi Eclipse & Eagle Talon 1995 thru 2001" or is it "Chrysler Sebring, Dodge Stratus & Avenger: Automotive Repair Manual 1995-2002, All Models" Or should I just buy both? I've never had/used either manual, would you guys generally go for haynes or chilton, or is there something like a "shop manual" that I should look for. It's getting to be the time where routine high mileage maintenance needs to get done and I would like an accurate manual instead of google searching anything I want to do. I also plan on swapping trans and adding some forged internals, headers, maybe turbo, I have a 10 lb. nos bottle and kit chillen in the garage with an apexi safc air flow controller. That being said I plan on doing lots with the car (if I ever pay it off) so I would like an in-depth look at things. From what I can see, the eclipse manual looks like the engine in this car. Please help...and thanks.
