I'm too afraid to drive this car again

Stratus, 96' LX 1. the engine stopped in the street at night>> no brakes>> no steering .. my god! 2. But, I got to park the car.. 3. I tried to start but I didn't .., (without noise, without electrical contact) 4. the panel light no change, when I turned the key .. 5. but the radio light changed!!!, 6. I moved the handbrake and now I could start the engine!!!!! Result: I am very afraid to drive this car again. Any suggestion?, any idea for me? (so sorry my bad english) Thanks so much
