Default Won't shift, no speedometer, messed up fuel gauge 01 Stratus

Okay, this is a 2.4 L DOHC 01 Stratus SE. The battery went dead. Replaced battery because it wouldn't hold a charge. My BF put in a battery with too many amps. So then replaced it with the right one. From the time that the battery died, my car won't shift. It's stuck in either 1st or 2nd (limp mode), The speedometer is compeltely dead, the fuel gauge bounces all over depending on starting and stopping. After reading threads on here We've changed the output and input speed sensors. The wiring connecting those look okay. We are still stuck. I have no idea what else it could be. I live in a rural town with no dealership to have the computer codes ran. I tried the Trip odometer and put it in the on postition. It did run through a lot of codes and such, but none of them started with P. From what I understand they should start with a P.
I'm basically trying to figure this out on my own since my BF doesn't seem to know anything about new cars. If this was an old ford or Chevy, he might be able to figure this out, but not on a newer car. I've been searching online in forums ( this one is great! ) and other websites. Everyone else seems to have had their problem fixed by the Speed sensors. Any help or ideas appreciated. The cheaper the better... money is super tight right now. Thanks in advance!

UPDATE** We have changed the input and output speed sensors and had the codes checked and cleared. I'm still getting codes P1698 - No Bus message from TCM and P0500 - No Vehicle Speed Signal Circuit. STUMPED! Any ideas??

have you tried to disconnect the negative on the battery, say overnight, and see if things work in the morning when it's re-connected. Putting a battery with a higher amperage should not have made a difference unless something got shorted out during install. If leaving it overnight dosen't help, please post back with all the codes (p or not), so we can see if they mean anything.

I know it has been disconnected for an hour or so, but not all night. I'll go ahead and try that tonight and check back in. I'll also come back equiped with the codes. THANKS!
