2000 Stratus rumbling noise

Have a 2000 Dodge Status that has a strange rumbling noise coming from the rear of the car. At first I thought it was just a tire issue as the tires on the front are a different brand than what's on the back. I just rotated the tires yesterday and the noise is still there. The noise is very similar to a tire with a very aggressive tread pattern running on dry pavement. If you have any suggestions please let me know as this is my daughter's car and beside the fact that the noise is very annoying, I just want to make sure the car is safe.
