Default 97 transmission problem

we have a 97 2.0 liter and we are getting no output from 3rd gear.
I've had it on the snap-on diag computer and it shows output from the input speed sensor and the output speed sensor.
The tech said that this is bad news as it has to be the either the spleens are gone or the hub is snapped.
Could there be any other reason for this not having any 3rd gear action.
I was quoted 1400 - 1600 canadian to get a rebuilt tranny installed.
What transmissions are compatible with this vehicle.
It's a 97 stratus 2.0 liter with the automatic transmission.
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

MIKE

i agree, it sounds as though you have internal damage to the tranny...have you tried having the trans pan dropped and seeing if the fluid was very dirty with shavings?

Default RE: 97 transmission problem

Hello, I'm also trying to find out what trannys are compatible, but I need a trans for a 1997 Breeze. I thought they would be the same, but the local salvage yard says the Breeze is unique.

Did you find that the Breeze 2.0, Stratus 2.0 , and the Cirrus 2.0 are all the same?

Thanks for any help you can give me....

Ken
