Alright, I'm thinking i've got a plan. Summer after this one my lease is up, and I'm thinking we'll buy the car out from the lease. Over the next year I'll be saving cash from whatever job I find while I'm in college, and also over the summer. My plan is to build my stratus up to a respectable level of power. My goal is to be able to keep up with or beat a mustang GT.
I'd like to hit 300 horsepower at the wheels, I think that would be sufficient, if not, feel free to correct me.
The first question is, obviously, how feasible is that on stock internals, running low boost in the range of 4-6 pounds? Can the motor handle that, or would there be some modifications needed, and if so, how easily could it be made to run at higher boost?
Are there any companies anyone knows of that would design and manufacture a one-off set of headers for my engine? Would I be able to get AEM or K&N or someone to make me a CAI for not too much? Would a company like Psi-Fi or AGP help me put together a turbo kit?
Would the transmission take that much power, or would I have to build that up or swap it out with a new one? (It's an auto, no autostick). If not, would it be feasible to find one of the few manuals they put in the sedans and swap it out?
What about the fuel system? Will I be able to use just any fuel pump, and are there bigger injectors out there for this engine?
Will the stock ECU be happy with any of this, or will that be another thing to have a company make for me?
I obviously have a lot of questions, and I appreciate any help you guys can give me. If this goal is realized, I'll be sure to whoop some mustangs for you.

i woudl sugget contacting Ripp...ask them what they can do for you..i know they make everything that you listed for my 3.0, and they make stuff for lots of other cars now...so its worth a look...i have seen an RT coupe running the Ripp SC with Ripp headers and ECU...running high 13s/low 14s on i believe 8 psi..stock internals...
if you can get 300 WHP...youll crush ALOT of cars...not just mustangs...having the weight over the wheels will help with traction, and youll want to put some solid mounts in to control some of the hop...while the SRT4 is lighter..consider that i have seen a stage 1 srt4 with the interior stripped out run high 12s....with 15" DRs on the front..and thats only like 220 crank hp...300 on the ground would whoop some ass...

the guy dad and i spoke with at the nats was running high 13s...running psi on stock internals...with the Ripp header and ecu...cat cleaned out...STS...nothing done to the tranny or diff.

well there's been talk in the past of having ripp run a supercharger kit for the 2.7 over at the 2gss forum, but every time it's been brought up, it's fallen flat, either from disinterest from ripp or the 2nd gen cloudcar community.
my primary concern is whether the transmission, axles, and everything else that would be under stress would take that much power without some kind of failure. It's going to be very expensive I think, because most stuff is going to be one-off I think. I'm really looking forward to starting work though.
I'm thinking as close to a near total sleeper if I can. Maybe a hood similar to the one on the '02 stratus turbo, I kinda liked that. leave it with no spoiler or anything like that, just a surprise in a mostly unassuming gray package. I picked the mustang as a benchmark because of what it is. It's a mid-range sports coupe that there's a lot of. Seemed like a decent goal.
i dont think that its unreasonable at all...but its not going to be easy, and for what it will end up costing you, you woudl be better off to buy a drivetrain out of a wrecked RT coupe.

just wanted to say whats up and thanks for the info on the neon and such.. as far as your questions regarding that I have some news that might help .I contacted a shop near my house that deals with aftermarket mods .... They told me that the stratus follows the same engine as the 2001 Eclispse that might help in your pursuit... Also try contacting Edelbrock and other companies cause they front the idea .

hmm... the mitsu engine has different mounts and everything, though I guess the cost of fabrication for those would still be significantly less if I could just buy everything from rip...
Do you know how easily everything on the transmission side would hook up?
