Default battery light

ok...

the battery light on my car is coming on and its a new battery this spring. a guy told me it was the belt but i just had my serpantene belt replaced and what not. so i am guessing that it is the alternator what do you think. my battery is not dead ever so i dont know what the heck is wrong. thanks for you help.

get a volt test from the stoe or a buddy to see if it is puting out 12 v when the car is off
