Default 97 2.4l Cooling Problems

I get a cooland boil every time I shut the engine down, even though temp gauge is in acceptable area just under 1/2 mark. Has new timing belt and water pump. No water in oil or rough idle so dont think its a head gasket. Any ideas out there?

has the thermostat been checked? Is the coolant flowing as it should? Are the radiator hoses getting hard? also air could be trapped in the system. My thought would be to check the radiator and theremostat.

Got a new thrmostat <supposedly> when the time belt and water pump went in. But its done this since before I had that work done. When I start the engine I can see the fluid circulating if the radiator cap is off. It seems to be forcing all the fluid into the overflow, then it flows back to the engine when cool. Could air in the system do that? Or a small pinhole in a hose?

Thanks in advance for your help and time.

Try having the coolant tested to see what it tests at? To much water in the system could make it seem like its boiling. Air in the system could make it not flow as though it should but where you said it was doing it before i wouldn't think this is the problem. I tend to think it more of an issue with a blockage somewhere in the system (a small blockage may allow fluid to flow) but will cause enough of a back up to build pressure. Another possible cause could be a wrong or faulty radiator cap one with the improper pressure could allow to much pressure to build in the system if the caps not releasing the pressure when the system is hot it could flow to the over flow looking for a way to release the pressure.

My car did the same thing..............the problem was a broken seal on the rad cap!!........let's air in and makes it seem like boiling.
