Default 2006 Stratus timing chain replacement

So I have a 2006 Sratus SXT 2.7L and I understand that it has a timing chain.

Is this true, and if so when should it need to be replaced?

Should be videos on you tube. Why do you think it needs to be changed?

I don't think it needs to be changed, I was asking when should it be changed?

Never really. Unless there is a problem. Timing belts need to be changed at regular intervals, but timing chains generally do not require periodic replacement.

The biggest issues I am finding with these motors is sludge build up from infrequent oil changes. This causes restricted oil passages, which can lead to insufficient oiling to rod and main bearings.
Additionally, as a minimum, the hydraulic tensioned should be checked for excessive chain stretch. And, if noted, a complete timing assembly should be installed.
It's a somewhat easy job, if you have some mechanical know how. BUT, it is an interference motor! This means if the timing chain breaks, the valves will hit the pistons, thus destroying the motor.
I am in the middle of a complete teardown and rebuild on mine. Not to difficult. But, you want to take the time and do it rigjt.

By 2006, they had the sludge issue resolved. That only affected the early 2000-2003 motors. That being said, any engine can have sludge issues if not properly maintained with on schedule oil changes.
