2006 Stratus timing chain replacement
#1

The biggest issues I am finding with these motors is sludge build up from infrequent oil changes. This causes restricted oil passages, which can lead to insufficient oiling to rod and main bearings.
Additionally, as a minimum, the hydraulic tensioned should be checked for excessive chain stretch. And, if noted, a complete timing assembly should be installed.
It's a somewhat easy job, if you have some mechanical know how. BUT, it is an interference motor! This means if the timing chain breaks, the valves will hit the pistons, thus destroying the motor.
I am in the middle of a complete teardown and rebuild on mine. Not to difficult. But, you want to take the time and do it rigjt.
