Default 4G64 won't line up timming marks

I'm trying to replace the head on my stratus but the timing mark won't line up because I can't rotate the engine.. It was frustrating me all day.. Any ideas?

Here is the service manual - http://tearstone.com/eclipsefsm/11B.PDF

Is the belt on currently? If not, what wont rotate, the cam gears or crankshaft?
If you havent done already, take out the spark plugs, you may be fighting compression.

The crankshaft might need rotated because a piston might be positioned where a valve is open and touching it. These are interference motors, everything has to be just right

Shine a flashlight down each spark plug hole and see what pistons are closest

You should be able to determine which way to rotate the crankshaft to allow room to spin the camshaft. The camshaft wont be very easy to move though, with the springs for the valves giving resistance.

See page 15 of the link in my first post. Im not sure what size the head bolts are, youll have to remove one and either take it to the dealer or any autoparts store. You might be able to get them at a hardware store but its a good chance they are an oddball size. Whatever you do, dont cheap out. Get the strongest ones you can find
