1: What the heck is that "L" gear on my automatic? Is it a towing gear? Overdrive? I though I had automatic overdrive...
|
It's for driving up very steep hills or descending down very steep grades. I've always been told that the L gear is basically for low speeds where you need lots of traction. Useful when driving in the snow or traveling at slow speeds in the rain. You can also drop it into L and do what is called an automatic manual shift....by shifting it manually thru the automatic. I did this alot when trying to get someone off the line....for some people it works...but most people dont recommend it. DO NOT exceed 30mph in the L gear as you will screw the engine up royally.

2. I heard the owners manual has all kinds of nifty info on how to tweak setings like turning the door lock chirp on and off. Is there anywhere all thesesetings are reprinted on the web? Might the also be in the Chilton manuals?

********YOU MUST HAVE A KEYLESS ENTRY FOB/REMOTE FOR THIS TO WORK********
To disarm the door lock chirp, you must NOT have the key in the ignition. At the end of each procedure, a chime sounds once if the function has been turned ON, or twice if the function has been turned OFF.
Horn Chirp Feature - Press LOCK button 4-10 seconds and press the UNLOCK button within this time period. Release both buttons at the same time.
Turn Signal Flash - Press the UNLOCK button 4-10 seconds and press the LOCK button within this time period.
To turn ON/OFF the feature that is provided when the doors are locked, release the LOCK button and then release the UNLOCK button.

If you need anything more, let me know. I have my manual in the house with me right now and I keep it in the car.
