Default fuel gauge 1996 stratus

my fuel guage goes up and down , when the tank is full is ok, but after a couples of miles driving away goes down again

do yourself a favor.... just get used to guessing how much fuel is in your tank..... cause pratically all chrysler cirrus and dodge stratus years 95- 97/98 have that crappy fuel gauge problem....

if it bugs you real bad, you will have to change out the fuel tank sending unit. you MIGHT get lucky. SOME, but not all cars (not sure about your year) have a plug/plate over the sending unit. pull the carpet out of the trunk to see if you have a round metal plate (held in with bolts/screws) or a plug (it's rubber but might be covered in paint). if you do, pop it off and look. if you can see wires going into the tank, your lucky. easy to change out, MAKE sure you get an new gasket unless you like to smell gass all the time. good luck.
