Okheres the deal... i just got my 02 dodge stratus coupe about two months ago. I understand that it has a 7 speaker infinite system already stocked. However, I want to put in my amp and subs. If I hook up this system then I'm going to buy an after market head unit. This is where I get confused... is installing a new head unit (to a stock infinite system compared to a regular stock system)as easy as connecting a wire harness and antenna adapter? I read something about having to by pass the factory amp or something like that. When I get the head unit installed, can I just hook up the amp and subs... or do i gotta mess with that infinite system? comments and advice please!!!
Also... I'm pretty sure I blew out one of the speakers. It's not one of the main 4 speakers, it sounds like maybe a tweeter in the dash. Can I just cut that wire cuz I don'tneed that speaker anyway? And if so, which wire would it be?
comments and advice please!!! thanx!!!

well man, i am goin through the same stuff. if you buy the new head unit, u just hook up the stock wires you have for ur infinity system, and you plug ur rca cables from ur amp and subs in the back of the head unit. its really easy, but it ended up costing more than wat i wanted to spend. i found out you couldnt use a line inverter to get my rca plugs from splicing in the rear speakers, i found out you need to get an aftermarket head unit. nothing much, but gets pricey.
Your best bet, and the easiest route, is to purchase a JL Audio Clean Sweep. This will let you keep the stock head unit all the while being able to add the amp & subs.
If you have a blown dash speaker, that's a royal PITA to take out. If you do have one, I suggest replacing all the interior speakers with a better quality aftermarket one. Believe it or not, Infinity makes a very good speaker....but the ones in the Stratus are cheap crap....
You can buy a wire harness kit that will allow you to use the stock amp. This one will have RCA plugs instead of speaker wires. If you call metra they will get you the correct one. Your new aftermarket stereo will have to have at least 3 sets of RCA outs for you to install another amp into your car. The stock amp requires 2 sets of those RCA's. Head over to www.2gstratus.com and check out the forum over there. There is a lot of good information in the audio section about this install.
