318's are fantastic engines that will last forever, if maintained a bit. My 78 D200 had over 300k original, unrebuilt miles. The reason they get no love is that's all they're good for. Light (very, very light) towing and hauling and car-pooling. They make little power and get bad fuel mileage. Heck, my 78 with a Dana 90 rear end got 21-22 mpg all the time-my 98 1500 4x2 gets 16 mpg MAX. I love Dodge and the 318, but let's be honest: it's a survivor, not a warrior.
