Looks like somebody with half a brain designed this system. Notice that the evaporator has a foam filter in front of it, and it actually did its job. The opening you see in the corner appears to be intentional, as a kind of bypass, in case the filter gets too dirty. Simply removing the dirty filter and passing the shop-vac over the exposed section of the core had it clean as you see in the "after" picture.

The good news is that the evaporator core appears to be free of any leaks. The expansion block and evaporator block appear to have been joined incorrectly, creating a leak. I have the complete new gasket set, so I shouldn't have a problem putting it back together in working order. But, before I do anything else, I am going to pull the evaporator and take it to a professional shop to be leak tested.

The hotter months are coming to Florida, and I'll be hauling alot of people to a lot of fine, fun, Miami Beach events, so I need to have my AC in order.

The new and improved front AC is working like a champ, so it can only get better from here (I hope). :D

Hello all.

Couple of days ago I start my 03 Dak QC 4.7L and it runs rough... like it's missing on a cylinder. Plus there is a tapping like noise that sounds like fan blade contact (but it's not) which increases with acceleration. Not so much a tapping but almost like one of the cynlinders exhausting out the side of the block.

Anyway, I take it on the road and between 1400 to 1550 rpms it wants to shake something fierce. Below that or above the shaking totally goes away and I am only dealing with a power loss. Losing no antifreeze, no visible smoke the exhaust.

There are few diagnostics codes... the first 3 are all evaporative emissions codes.

The last two are P0300 and P0302... which I believe references the number 2 cylinder. So I put a stethascope on the engine the tapping noise is loudest on the overhead cam above the number two cylinder.

I remove the plug from number 2 and moved it to 4 (4 plug to 2) and the ignition coil I moved from 1 to 6 to see if the codes change to either 4 or 6.
However, I ran the engine with the 2 plug removed and grounded against metal and I got bright spark so it does not appear to be electric issue.

Any ideas what would cause this behavior if it's not the plug or ignition coil for the number 2 cylinder? fuel... or lack of to number 2?

Can oxygen sensor be part of the problem?

Truck has 75,000 miles and is a 2003 Quad Cab 4.7L.

Thanks,

Folks, I was put in a position where I had to sell my 2005 QC Ram and buy a little econobox car.

Fast Forward a bit of time and I am back to where I can get financing for a newer to new ram. I have been looking very specific for a 2007+ regular cab shortbed ram 1500 with 4wd and a Hemi. But I can't find em anywhere, Everything I am seeing is QC or the RCAB's are lower engine or/and 2wd.

Heck, I can't even see find lower mileage single cab anything, F150, tundra, etc... When I was looking at my 05, the single cab trucks were all over the friggin place.

So I gotta ask, Is it just my location? I can't seem to find these anywhere close to me in the KC area. So far I have come across 1 and it was and 2007 with 160K+ miles for $14,000, Which my bank won't let me finance because miles.

In working out the details for my relay based controller, I realized that I had overlooked the potential of using the Spal Fan PWM controller with the power hungry Taurus fan. I’m assuming that Spal used some reasonably clean form of either Pulse Width or Pulse Frequency Modulation and if so, the 30 amp limitation for that controller can be worked around. The controller (as is, without any modification) should be able to act as the smart front end to a high current switching module. In this environment, the Spal controller would be hooked up just as their instructions call for, except that the connections for the fan would actually be attached to the switching module. This “module” is not much more than a solid state relay & has the capability of taking a lower current pulse train as an input (this part is similar in function to the activation coil of a mechanical relay) & essentially duplicating the timing characteristics of this pulse train with a high current output (this functionally replicates the high current side of the mechanical relay). Essentially, a transistor designed to switch high current, along with a handful of other simple components would let people who already own a Spal controller to extend the use of it to more powerful cooling fans.

I've searched through many posts on this but can't really find the answer I'm looking for. I have a 2001 Grand Caravan with just over 120K miles. A few years ago I replaced the power steering reservoir due to the noisy cold startups and clogged screen. That noise has never come back but now I'm experiencing something different.

After extended driving, the power steering "groans" loudly. Once she sits and cools down it's back to normal. Would this also be due to the screen not allowing enough fluid through as it heats up and gets bubbly?

My 1998 5.2 is getting me down.

The truck idles really rough on cold starts. If you give it fuel, the rpms will go up, to a point then it will back fire and the rmps will drop. then you can here the intake hiss. Then the rpms will settle but the motor will still have a weird sound. It almost seems to be worse wet, but im not sure.

after 5 minutes of this the truck runs fine and drives good

i installed a new fuel pump last month becasue that quite. So that "should" be good. In the last 2 weeks ive changed the plugs, wire cap and rotor button. even the coil and it still does it.
