Default 99 Intrepid 2.7L - how do you get rid of sludge?

I just bought a Intrepid 2.7L and I was just became aware of the sludge issue. Is there a fix for the sludge issue of the 2.7L engine? Other than a rebuild/replacement engine. Are there any techs on the board that can shed some light on this for me?

OK, I HAVE NOT followed up on the sludge issue you are talking about but if you want a good engine flush, you can do like the old schoolers and use diesel. Replace 1 quart of oil with diesel and run the car for 30 minutes or so. Drain your oil then put in a cheap brand of oil - like the Wal-Mart stuff. Run your engine for 30 minutes then do a full change filter and all replacing with your normal oil. This used to work back in the old days when Quaker State and Pennzoil were very dirty oils and would cause sludge in the engine. We used to refer to the sludge as "looks like the quaker state or pennzoil monster has been here".

We did this to 70's and early 80's Chevy engines out of my Camaro's. These days you can get Seafoam or B-12 Chemtool if the diesel thing does not sit well.

Yep, I was going to suggest diesel as well. I've know of some who put nothing but diesel in, i.e., no engine oil at all. Of course, they only run the engine for about 10-15 minutes, but the engine should be warmed up good first no matter what you do.

What about that stuff called Motor Flush? You pour it in with your oil and let it run for about 5 minutes then drain it all out and slap on your new filter and fill er up with new oil. or would diesel work better? I might have to try that with mine

Diesel drys out the gaskets... not recomended.... use a quality motor flush. Kerosene is another one that can be used, but not recomended. If you really want a great motor flush use a gallon of the Gold Eagle or Gunk motor flush... (the real **** that COMES in a gallon) that works wonders.

Once an engine sludges theres no turning back. Keep the oil changed. Check it often, if you notice that the engine is "using" oil then your problem is getting worse. If you don't notice any oil being used, your good for now.

I suggest the use of autorx. It works and is not harmful to the motor. It is a safe cleaner that is used with organic oil over a period of miles.
here is a link to thier site and use instructions.
