Default gauges go off/on

Hello and Thank You for any help. I have a 1997 Grand Caravan that has a problem with all gauges on the dash. They will suddenly stop working......may stay off for a couple of weeks....then suddenly there will be a "ding" and all gauges will work....will work for anywhere from 10 minutes to couple weeks. Check engine comes on and ABS light comes on when gauges stop working. Thanks again for any advice.

Dustin

Default RE: gauges go off/on

moe in wichita ks
years ago chrysler used a very cheep voltage regulator to power the gauges, they had a habbet of going bad, it was a simple bimetal strip that would heat up and turn the current off the come back on, they had it balanced so it averaged to 5 volts. its a small metal can about 2 inchs long and 3/4 wide, and plugs in to the back of the dash panel. they unplug easly, but some times they are hard to get to. i had an articel on how to make it solid state using a lm7805 and some resistors but i have lost it. but iam not sure you have that system. pardon my spelling iam a card carrying redheck 3 rd class
