Default 1973 DODGE DART SWINGER PART ID!

hello, i have a question i thought some of you other dodge-heads may be able to help me out with. my buddy has a '73 dart swinger with a 318 and 727 trans and he needs the rod that goes from the transmission to the carb (not exactly sure what it does, i think something about helping it go into high gear?) and we dont know what its called or where to get it. if anyone can help us out we will be eternally grateful! thanks in advance, ian

It is the transmission kick down rod. When you hit the gas on the freeway, the throttle on the carburator will push back on this rod and cause it to kick down to a lower gear(passing gear) so that the car will accelerate faster instead of staying in high gear and accelerating slowly. I'm sure you have noticed that when your crusing in high gear(3rd or D) and you jump into it or floor it, that it kicks it down to a lower gear and the RPM's go up and after you get to a certain speed or let off the gas it goes back into high gear, that is the transmission kick down at work.

Here is a link to a place that has them:The Paddock

You can get a cable set-up for the kickdown. I have one on my coronet. It provides lots of adjustment. If your intersted, let me know and I'll get you a web address or phone #.
