Default Oil?

Just curious, what kinda of oil do you guys run in your vehicles? I currently have some cheap 5W-30 oil in my truck, but have decided to run Castrol GTX High Mileage in it next oil change, see how it works. I'am thinking of trying Synthetic oil sometime too, I hear it works wonders. What do you guys run?

The above link is a very good long-term study on synthetic oils.....

I used to use Castrol GTX10w30, now I use Amsoil 10w40. my truck has 147,000 plus on it and Amsoil gave some of its life back whenI put it in. If you choose on 5w30 weight oil Kendall, Castrol, Trop artic, Pennzoil are good brands to choose from for non-full synthetics. I myself am coverting my truck to completely Amsoil synthetic trans, engine, transfer case & front a rear diffs. Check out All the oils available first, if you plan on keeping non-synthetic for a little longer I suggest stay with Castrol its tough oil.

Amsoil is good, I just got tired of the constant price increases and having to pay $20 a year just to get catalogs mailed to my house. I haven't noticed any difference in using Mobil-1 other than my wallet having more money in it.........

Amsoil isn't sold via the normal retail system. It's like Amway or Avon, it's a MLM system. You pay $$ to become a dealer and get "wholesale prices" on what you order. Then you turn around and try to sell those products to someone else for the higher "retail price". I used their stuff for about a year with no problems. But it's more expensive than going to Wally World and buying a 5 quartjug of Mobil-1 for $23. And long term synthetic oil tests have shown Amsoil thickens up over time (see my link above).

I run Amsoil 5W-30 (ASL) in my gasoline powered vehicles and their new CJ-4 5W-40 diesel oil (DEO) in my Dodge Ram. I also buy Donaldson Endurance oil filters through Amsoil.

If you want to buy Amsoil stuff you don't have to become a dealer. They have a Preferred Customer Program which costs $10 for the first six months. Preferred Customers get the same price as dealers.

I have always used Mobil 1 in everything. I have never used anything else. That is the standard 10,000 mile synthetic oil. I have used the 15,000 mile extended performance once, but the price is really high. So, for me the regular synthetic Mobil 1 is fine.

I use Castrol or Valvoline in my truck, and for the Charger she gets Mobil 1 fully Synthetic. I always stay away form the cheap stuff and Pennzoil and Quaker State..i really hate that stuff. Ive seen what it can do to engines if you dont change that crap very often. Thats just me though
