Default heater/temp guage

Hey all!!! i'm new to this site so bare w/me....I've posted on other sites and nobody can seem to help me with my problem....I got a 1990 dodge spirit 2.5 turbo I with a 5 spd. Car runs really goog over all. My problem is with the heater control....With the climate control on recirculate (cool), car shows around 1/4 on temp gauge. If i slide the control off of recirc, to any position from off of recirc to hot, the temp gauge immediately moves to 1/2 or better. If i slide control back to recirc, the temp gauge goes right back down to normal...I'm stumped here...no coolant loss and have put on new radiator, thermostat and hoses...heater core and waterpump are only 2 years old...Got any ideas??? P.S. car never overheats but heat is not real hot...
