Our liberty normally spends most of the winter in full time 4wd, unless we have a dry spell combined with a long highway trip.
Yesterday we had this combination but when I shifted to 2wd, the transfer case stayed in part time 4wd. We were in a parking lot in town so i noticed the binding before I hit the open road. Tried all the regular stunts, backing up, shifting to neutral, etc (been driving 4x4s since 1971) but it would not release. It would shift into full time, but would not make the shift past part time into 2wd, even though the handle movement felt fine. I just left it in full time for the trip but would like to find the problem without a trip to the dealer.
Any suggestions?
