Angry Rebuilt bottom end 2.2L Turbo So tight will barely turn over without plugs!

Hey there,

I recently had to replace my crankshaft, main, and rod bearings due to the old bearing being eaten after a blown map sensor vac line. Anyway, after putting everything back together, i can barely get the engine to turn over with no plugs in and 2 batteries hooked up, one of which is brand new. During assembly, all the bearings were lubed with oil and everything torqued to spec and then triple checked. To get the engine to turn over i have to cycle the starter several times after which the engine will finally turn. I have gotten it to turn about 5 or 6 times and held it for 10 or 15 seconds but the engine has also failed to produce any oil pressure either. Also, the starter motor died today too, after turning the engine over once with plugs in it.

If it helps, the crank is ground down .010" for both the rod journals and main bearing journals and has Clevite 77 bearings.

How normal is any of this? How long should it take to build oil pressure on a rebuilt engine with new oil and filter just cranking it over? Are there any suggestions as to how i can get the engine to turn over easier, preferably without dropping the oil pan?

Thanks a million for any suggestions!

- Brian

Sorry for the late response. This problem has me puzzled too. How tight were the pistons when you put them back in? You should only have to tap them in with a wooden block. If they took a lot of force to re-insert they might be binding up.
