Exclamation I'm throwing a p0420 code

i have a 2004 srt-4 and i had to replace the duel fans on it this past weekend and put it all back together and then filled up my tank and fgot to half a tank and threw this code i thought maybe the cat but i don't have one on my car it was cut off and i got to thinking the ecu so i unplugged it and replugged it in and still the code it there the car runs fine no white smoke or anything have already checked for an exhaust leek and not on e there im so lost on this one and it is confusing the heck out of me can anyone help? or possibley throw out an idea for me to try???

How long ago did you remove your cat? The code is set off by your post cat O2 sensor. If you don't have a cat, the sensor is going to read that it isn't working properly (obviously), and thus throw a code. You need to either install a cat or install a CEL eliminator (resistor that fools the signal to the ECU). Mostly it is just emissions, but you'll get worse gas mileage when the code is tripped.

i have had a cat off for about 2 years now it was just weird i got ran off into a ditch and my fan was knocking on the plastic frame of the fan so i got a new fan and reinstalled it and car was running fine then i filled up and got to half a tank and the check engine cam eon and i was like huh? and automally thought the ecu but unpluged it and repluded it in and same thing

Try unscrewing your gas cap and re-tighten it. Give it a few miles (maybe up to 1/4 tank) and see if the light goes off.

i did that and it went off its kinda weird had never seen it done like that before thanks for the help it was a simple little thing that i couldn't figer out
