RWD Dodge Dakota in the snow
We are looking to buy a rear wheel drive 2005 dodge dakota. We live in Idaho and it can be snowy. Is a rear wheel drive good in the snow or do we need to buy snow tires? Is it a bad idea to buy a rear wheel drive in a snowy area?

I had a RWD S-15 for about 5 years in Kelowna, B.C... I had a few close calls with it that if I had a 4x4, likely wouldn't have happened. I had good snow tires for it that I put on religiously. I never got stuck, but also picked my battles for trips in the winter. A Dak is heavier than a S15 so that's more weight to try to move forward/up hills.
With my former 1500, and current 3500 when the snow hits, we leave the truck in 4x4 unless we are in a parking lot or fighting with tight turning corners.
People drove RWD for years before FWD was available and survived... Not sure what your driving skill is.

I have grown up driving in the snow here in Idaho. In town we can get a few inches we sometimes drive up to the ski resort sometimes the road can be snowy, of if we drive to our family cabin the road could have 4-5 inches on it. We found a good deal on the truck so debating about getting it.
