Default RE: 2009 Camaro Concept to be shown at the 06' NAIAS

I love it, as a former F-body owner, I can't wait for it to hit the lots. I just traded my '95 Z-28 for a Dakota, about 2 weeks ago. I knew I had been suffering from lack-of-HP withdrawal, but these pics just brought it to the forefront. Anyone got a FAST American made sports car (Furds don't count), that I can tear a** in for a little while & get this out of my system?

Seriously though: It looks nice, deffinately retro! I might be inclined to get one, however my dream toy is a '72 Maro w/ a 327 (with the bullet taillights, Sweeeet).

but in every case, the f bodies and vettes dyno'd to the same numbers..the f bodies werent under powered, they were under rated.
By no means. The F-bodies were beating the Mustang during the majority of the time for a better price. It took Ford the more expensive Cobra model to compete against the simple Z28 and Formula. The SS and WS6-packaged Trans-Am could beat the Cobra for most of the years. The issue was the F-bodies weighed more than the Vette. Many prefered the Mustang because it was more comfortable, they could get a GT with lower insurance cost than the Z28/Formula, and the youth crowd was going towards ricing out Civics and not with good, old fashion muscle cars. The styling also might have been a factor. I never liked the Camaro's styling ever, but the Firebird seemed cool to me. I hope for GM's sake that if they return the Camaro that they will offer a base model with a V6 and not just offer a Vette V8 like they did with the GTO. The V8 model gets people to come to the dealership, the customer realizes that they cannot afford or would rather not pay the insurance and the top level preformance premiums. Commonly, V6s on these models are the most popular; however, the V8 gets the people interested in the car in the first place. These cars would not be even considered by many if it was not for the V8 model, though many are not willing to get the V8 option.

I honestly believe Chevy has no choice but to match the SRT-8 motor with the LS2 Z06 motor. How they do it will determine how well it performs. It will definitely have a heckuva aftermarket for it though.

HemiMan4451: I also heard that they were considering the 6.4, but I don't know if that's financially feasible for them....we'll see! If they do, I may just have to skip the Camaro But that all depends on what they put in the Camaro....
Why do you keep referring to the LS2 as the Z06 motor? The previous Z06 (C5) and 04/05 CTS-V and had an LS6 with 5.7L and 405 HP. The current Z06 (C6) has an LS7 with 7.0L and 505 HP. The LS2 is used in the base Corvette and has 6.0L with 400 HP and is also used in the 05 GTO, 05 SSR and 06 Trailblazer SS.

Again, the LS2 (6.0L, 400 HP) is not a Z06 motor, the LS6 (5.7, 405 HP) and LS7 (7.0, 505 HP) are.
Thanks.

It was a typo on my part actually.

What I had thought I typed earlier in the thread, but after re-reading, I didnt, was that they would have no choice but to put the LS2 motor in it as a base motor.

Then, as a lesser version of itself, offer the LS7 from the Z06 in the Z28 only as a 425-430hp variety.

I know the LS7 comes in the Z06, I just wasnt paying much attention. Thanks for correcting my error nonetheless

Also, the LS7 is nothing more then LS2 motor that's been modified. So we're both right in different ways....

[sm=icon_cheers.gif]Yes you are right, the LS7 is a modified, almost race version, of the LS2. Not so different than the 6.1 and 6.4 HEMIs in their relation to the 5.7 HEMI.
