One thing that always impressed me about being in the service (and that I have never found in the same way in cooperate america) is the importance of respect.
I had Senior NCO's that I would p!ss on if they were on fire....and I had guys who had less rank than I did that I would lay down across a raging river for. Yes Rank is always important; you have to do certain things because there is rank behind it. But it goes much deeper than that ~ always did. That was one lesson that I could never master teaching my new troops. They had to live it for a while to figure it out.
My job was special we had to be good at something that in all honesty really didn't have a perfect fit in the military. So we got to play both sides and earn the respect of our fellow troops both ways. If a guy could do our job really well but couldn't do a push-up to save his arse we worked with it (around it ) but if a guy could shoot really well but couldn't reboot a Windows 95 box well we worked with it (around it ). So I was extra lucky in that way.
(going Warrant????)

got my packet almost ready. . .going to rework it and go for a different MOS. I'm in a special possition since I can either go 915A due to my primary/experience, or go 948A due to more experience. going to re work it for 915A since promotions come faster, and I can get W5 as well.
W4's can predict the weather, W5's predict the future

You've been talking about warrant since I first came on the site. WTF are you waiting on? The damn packet is easy.
Don't you have to get all dressed up in A's and take a pretty picture for the packet....well he's still trying to find someone to look pretty in the picture for him

Somehow, that sounds a little rough. I have a GED. I also have my E-5 and a running at my E-6 in the very near future. Not exactly fair to just assume that a person with or even without a GED is automatically a retard. Only reason I have mine is because I went to HS in a town with only one HS. I got expelled for beating up a bully who thought that pushing around this kid with a gimp arm made him a badass. That was with one month left of my Junior year and the Vice Principal (who hated me) convinced the Superintendant to make me restart 11th grade, and I just wasn't having it. Oh, I'm also the Senior Deputy on my crew at the Sheriff's Office at the ripe age of 24.

I don't think she meant it that way brother. The 3 years I was on the trail, 01 - 04, you really saw an increase in the number of waivers that were making it through to us. A Cat IV is really anyone that needs multiple waivers for whatever reason.....education, moral issues, medical, whatever.
Here's the way I saw it and this always went in cycles. It was like clockwork.....
The kids you got from May - Oct, regardless of background seemed to do much better overall. I attribute this to kids that made up their mind, right after school (high school / college / whatever) and said this is what I'm gonna do. They were determined, knew what they wanted and were ready to go.
Now, on the other hand, the ones that we always had more issues with were the ones that came in from about Dec - Apr. These were the ones that wanted to take a "break" after high school or college, took one semester of school and decided they didn't like it, were still living at home with mom and dad, whatever. These kids always presented more of a disciplinary issue that others and they also seemd to have a higher percentage of Cat IV's.
I got to the point that within about 72 hrs, I knew who wasn't gonna make it. You can just tell. It's the attitude, the condition, the mentality, the general confidence they have. It all paints a picture and it's like painting by numbers.
It's all the factors that add up, not just one thing. Nobody's perfect.
So Cumminalong, back to the other half of this topic. Sounds like you've gotta have an opinion. Should we let the gays serve without "Don't ask don't tell?"

NO I did not mean that a GED was a bad thing. I have a ton of people in my life that have GED's. It at shows a willingness to finish something. HS isn't for everyone ~ hence the reason we have a GED system. Life happens to us all and for some it just happens sooner.
All I meant was that the military already has systems in place for accepting HS diplomas, GED, college degrees and ways to get wavers for everything else.
